New Chapters in Our Stories - Not of Our Choosing

Posted by Marcia Carole on Wednesday, November 30, 2011,
Today is the first day on my most recent journey, and I have been listening to the words of others who have faced the next chapters in their lives -chapters that were not of their own choosing. I have been reading several Psalms in preparation for next steps in my cancer care. I have settled down and rested in Psalm 57. I worship my Artist Maker this morning, my heart is steadfast in Him. I exult and worship Him, not perfectly, but with my heart, mind, voice and art making.

I am painting a s...

My Father's Collaged Story

Posted by Marcia Carole on Sunday, November 20, 2011,
Today, I cut out a number of photos from a stack of old Time magazines and asked my father to find some photos to help tell his story. He then found a glue stick and glued his pictures on an 8.5x11 piece of paper in a collage format. Then, I asked him to explain what he had made through the process of collage. I hope to share a couple of photos of his artwork when I return home.
It is interesting to see what a profound affect his Father's departure from the family had on him. He chose a pict...

Six Panels - Mark 5

Posted by Marcia Carole on Friday, November 11, 2011,
I am currently collaging the Biblical account of the woman with the 12 year bleeding problem who was eventually healed by Jesus and called, "Daughter" by Him found in Mark chapter 5. It's a really exciting passage to collage. I am preparing it for a womens conference coming up in January. Lots to do before then! My concept here is the fact that she was consumed with managing her bleeding, as she was unable to receive any help from anyone for her problem. Also, she was an outcast and an untouc...

Story Ropes in Cambodia

Posted by Marcia Carole on Tuesday, November 8, 2011,
A friend sent me a few pictures from our time hearing stories through the use of story ropes in Cambodia. Here is one photo she sent me. As a pastor's wife shared her story using her story rope (in her lap) she was overcome with grief as she recounted loosing her father. Her father was killed during the "Killing Fields" time period in Cambodia. We prayed for healing for this part of her story. The art is a bridge to sharing deep hurts and pain held onto for many years.

The Good Samaritan/ The Prodigal Son

Posted by Marcia Carole on Friday, November 4, 2011,
-artwork by my missions pastor, Hilario Pardo.
Today, I was invited to teach my missions pastor what I do around the world with art. (Now that is a gift of an invitation for an artist!) He was an excellent student, and he was able to collage the story of the Prodigal Son as told by Jesus. It's a great story of love and redemption, and my missions pastor did an excellent job. He is an artist, so he was able to bring many skills and gifts he already has into the process of collage making.

About Me

Marcia Carole It is my pleasure to help many to process their stories by using a variety of art forms. The art reaches non-verbal parts of the brain, where trauma is stored. Healing may take place through the art-making. By sharing our stories, we become known. Instead of running from our stories, we embrace them and see how God can redeem them and use them.
