New Painting

Free, Acrylic on canvas, Marcia Carole

Painting, in response to a passage of Scripture, is a multi-faceted adventure. There are verses to read, prayers to pray, thoughts to think, meditation on the words to be accomplished, and then - paint a painting in response to all that pondering. This piece is part of the journey I have been on while studying Romans 6 and 7 in the Bible. You'd never know, just yet, how much thought and prayer has gone into this piece.

I am working on contrasting being ens...

Hilario and Lois

Pastor Hilario and Grandchild, Pencil on Paper, Marcia Carole

Certain people impact our lives deeply. Today, I want to honor two friends who have tremendously impacted me and the work God has called me to. Pastor Hilario and his wife, Lois, have been two very important people in my life this year. While fighting cancer, not many would be so encouraging towards me to travel to Thailand, Nicaragua and Turkey - with Camaroon slated later in the year. Pastor Hilario and Lois are two friends who pr...

Still Cloudy....Italia Continues

Early Morning Venice, Original Watercolor, Marcia Carole

It was so dark gray this morning, I thought I was waking up in the middle of the night. My piano teacher cancelled my lesson, so, I did what any thinking person does. I crawled back into bed. (I had just read an article about not rushing around.) The gray enveloped not only my house, but, in some way, me. A sunny climate really encourages my soul. The dark, smoke gray of Seattle is just plain hard. The thick, watery clouds hang so low, t...

Ah, Italia!

Burano, Italia, Original Watercolor, Marcia Carole

Some people have classical or jazz music playing quietly in the background while working, reading, doing dishes, getting up or even falling off to sleep. Other people listen to praise music or rock or even a little machine that has sounds like beach waves or happy crickets chirping on a summer's evening. Seattlites, including me, have steady rain playing in the background of our lives. The continuous soft thud of water landing on: the deck, th...

The Cancer Holds On.... I Hold Onto Jesus

Christmas 2012, Painted Papers Collage, Marcia Carole - Christmas cards of this print are available.

Some well-meaning people occasionally come up to me and say, "How are you doing?" in a very grave, dark tone of voice. I could respond, "I'm dying." but I think better of it. Why burden them? They are having a fairly good day, and it will spoil the flow of conversation.

Today, my day to see the oncologist, was yet another oncology, I am dying kind of day. After today, I'll forget about it a litt...

Essence

Posted by Marcia Carole on Friday, December 7, 2012,

In this piece, I am worshipping God for His humility. (The above part is just a small section of the whole canvas.) The verse I have been meditating on for this painting is this: So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. John 1:14. This is the essence of Christmas.

I am amazed and thankful, simultaneously, when I think of the wonder of God becoming a tiny human b...

OK, That's Enough Gray!

Sunny Days, Painted Papers Collage, Marcia Carole

Having made this collage on an especially gray set of weeks in Seattle, I am pulling it up once again for this week. We had 39 seconds of sunshine in my neighborhood this morning, but that was only partly sunny, so did it really count? I pop the vitamen D pills, and shake my head. No. And, no, not any vitamen D worth noting out there today.

I am ordering mugs, T-Shirts and cards with this jpeg, so I can wear the shirt to spread sunshine as I wal...

Patiently Preparing

Folded Accordion Books, bristol board, Marcia Carole

It is exciting and just plain steady work to prepare for a group of people to share their stories through the art of collaged book pages. I am leading a couple of workshops soon, and my preparation is in full swing. I am thankful for all the pictures that have been cut out way in advance. Many friends have helped cut out photos or handed me a stack of magazines. I'm organizing containers of rubber stamps and stamp pads.

Tomorrow, I will need ...

About Me

Marcia Carole It is my pleasure to help many to process their stories by using a variety of art forms. The art reaches non-verbal parts of the brain, where trauma is stored. Healing may take place through the art-making. By sharing our stories, we become known. Instead of running from our stories, we embrace them and see how God can redeem them and use them.
