Story Ropes In India

Posted by Marcia Carole on Monday, August 26, 2013,
Before leaving India, I taught a new friend there, how to make and share our stories through the making of a story rope. She was excited to make the story ropes with her friends. Thankfully, she was able to spend an afternoon with several of them, sharing her story, and then they shared their stories - using story ropes. I am very blessed and thankful they were able to spend the time together, even though I could not be with them. Below, are some of the ladies' story ropes.

Mehndi style Tree Of Life, watercolor, pen and ink, Marcia Carole

While caring for my daughter back in the States, I have been practicing the art form I learned in India. Carefully laying down details in my art, and in my relationship with my daughter, has some parallels. Both have to be done slowly and with the best skill I am able to muster. (I often feel inadequate.) As I add color to my art, I sense adding listening love and hugs, in my relationship ...

Back Home - and Onto Colorado Springs

Posted by Marcia Carole on Sunday, August 18, 2013,
I have left India. I came home rather abruptly in order to be with my daughter. She had a brain tumor four years ago, had surgery, and now the tumor has grown back. I am with her in Colorado Springs. Any prayer is appreciated. I hope to make art while sitting with her during any medical care she will be having. It's all in God's hands. And, He is faithful. I have no one else to put the full weight of my faith on than Jesus. He proved His love on the cross, and although I am extremely sad and ...

Completed Mural - Varanasi, India

The Mehndi Mural Is near completion.

A number of students at an English Institute here in Varanasi have taken a turn in painting this mural. I am happy to see it finally being completed. I've learned so much, this idea was totally a God thing, and I am looking forward to what He will ask me to do next. I am standing with my driver, who faithfully brought me to all my painting sessions, both day and night. He weathered storms, cows, scooters, rickshaws, goats, water buffalo, dogs, pedestrians, ...

Tree Of Life, Pen and Ink, Marcia Carole

While in India, I am learning a very traditional style of art in order to share story. I have been studying and practicing some forms and symbols, and I hope to learn more tomorrow with someone who has been doing this art form to tell stories. Hopefully, we will be collaborating on the painting of a mural while I am here.

About Me

Marcia Carole It is my pleasure to help many to process their stories by using a variety of art forms. The art reaches non-verbal parts of the brain, where trauma is stored. Healing may take place through the art-making. By sharing our stories, we become known. Instead of running from our stories, we embrace them and see how God can redeem them and use them.
