That's A Wrap, Hannah

Hannah, Mixed Media, Marcia Carole

I have finished collaging the the story of Hannah, and I am happy with the use of the trees to represent the main characters. It feels good to have completed the pages for the story of another woman in the Bible. I'll use these stories with women from all around the world. Hopefully, this story will impact their hearts, and bring healing in broken places.

"My heart rejoices in the Lord; my horn is exalted in the Lord. I smile at my enemies, b...

Completing A Collaged Book and More

Posted by Marcia Carole on Monday, February 25, 2013,
Typically, a visual artist has several pieces of work going at once. Some are in the process of being created, painted, drawn or sculpted. Others are being created in our mind's eye. Those pieces are percolating in our hearts and minds, and often our souls. We talk to God about them, or/and we share our percolations with trusted friends. Groups can be formed to talk about and encourage the artwork found in our thoughts.

Yesterday, I asked a few fellow artists if they are going to submit work f...

Defend, Rescue, Deliver

Defend, Rescue, Deliver, Original graphite drawing, Marcia Carole

Today, I am a part of one of my favorite weekends of the year. It is the weekend when my church family celebrates service, being the hands and feet of Jesus, locally and globally. Various ministries and servants have the opportunity to share what they do all around the world. Terrific food is served, conversations are started, and awareness is raised. The above drawing is for the Frontline For Justice table area to help raise aw...

Ah, Summer Lavender!

Posted by Marcia Carole on Friday, February 22, 2013,

Lavender Bouquet, Original Watercolor, Marcia Carole

What fun to paint alongside my grandson, Calvin, today. He enjoyed painting on the paper and painting his fingers! I loved how he played with the paint, and didn't worry about a right or wrong way to lay down his colors. He just enjoyed the whole process of creating, including touching, sloshing around, so to speak, in the medium.

Meanwhile, I was more calculating with my work. This is a watercolor I hope to make into cards. However, tomorro...

Lavender Progressing...

Lavender Bouquet, Original watercolor in progress, Marcia Carole

I was able to complete a bit more of the buds on the bouquet, but they are small and I am trying for quite a bit of realism. Tomorrow, I hope to have a fresh start and renewed energy, when not playing with my grandsons!

Italian Hibiscus

Italian Hibiscus, Original Watercolor, Marcia Carole - Hanging in my daughter and son-in-law's home in Alaska.

On my second grand visit to Italia, I painted quite a bit in Lucca, Italy. I paid to get into an arboretum to paint blooming flowers. I had brought a little folding chair, and got right to work, on a lovely summer day, in front of some bright red hibiscus. (Painting above.) I wanted to be an artist full time, but I had scant idea how to accomplish that goal. The only thing I could thi...

Not A Tourist Destination

Not A Tourist Destination, Graphite on paper, Marcia Carole

I've taken a short break from my lavender painting. I am enjoying a visit with my grandsons, and that means making collage books with them, taking walks in the snow, changing diapers, making hot chocolate and peanut butter&jelly sandwiches, and lots of stories and laughter.

My daughter pulled out a stash of my artwork she had kept for me when I was working outside the country. Among the works, I found a drawing that is very important t...

Lavender Bouquet, Original Watercolor, Marcia Carole

Busy day. Only a couple hours of painting today. This detail work takes time, care and patience. I hope this can be turned into cards for the lavender farm one day. These are one of my all-time favorite flowers!

Lavender Cards In Progress

Lavender Bouquet, Original Watercolor, 10 x14, Marcia Carole

I am working away at a second lavender card idea. It is totally different than yesterday's painting! I thought I'd give the gift shop owner options when I finally bring the cards over. Hopefully, I can work on the blossoms tomorrow.

I took a lovely walk today, with my bird-loving friend, Judy. We soldiered on to the rose and the wet sheep in the drizzly rain. As we talked, Judy mentioned a new recipe that she found to replace her favo...

Lavender Fields In Winter

Lavender Fields, Watercolor, Marcia Carole

Tonight, while teaching a private lesson, we worked wet on wet - that is, we worked with wet paper with our watercolors. This became my demo. It was fun to work more loosely than I normally do! Of course, dreaming of the bright sunshine on a lavender field, all on a Seattle cloudy day, made me happy as well. I am hoping to work up several possibilities for cards for a lavender farm's gift shop. Stay tuned!

Here is a link to our local lavender farm.

Doodling At Church

Doodling During The Sermon, Pen and Ink, Marcia Carole

If you are anything like me, you can actually listen better if you are doodling. I don't quite know why that is. Some say it helps your brain focus. As I doodled away while my pastor preached, I wondered if I came across as being distracted. Or, did it seem I was actually listening better than those around me? I researched it a little today and found that studies back up the notion that doodling helps people listen better.

 Doodling while l...

Jesus In The Garden, in process...acrylic on canvas, Marcia Carole

Three projects are currently in process in my studio. Tomorrow is a busy day with a speaking engagement and the preparation for that meeting. I'm fine-tuning a Power Point presentation on art/faith/story.

I'd like to finish putting the Abraham, Sarah and Hagar art book together in the next couple of days. Then, I could concentrate on the above painting. The YES glue is out and ready for action to get the pages down on the accor...

Telling The Greatest Story

Telling God's Story....in process, Marcia Carole

As I sit, feverish and achey, in bed, hour after hour, then shift to napping, I imagine paintings in my head. Then, unable to stand NOT creating all day, I pulled out painted papers, fabric, etc. to tell God's Big Story. We each have a story, and so does God. In fact, our stories fit into His! I think there is one more thing to add, but I need to let it, and me, rest for tonight.

Late night addition to the artwork........

About Me

Marcia Carole It is my pleasure to help many to process their stories by using a variety of art forms. The art reaches non-verbal parts of the brain, where trauma is stored. Healing may take place through the art-making. By sharing our stories, we become known. Instead of running from our stories, we embrace them and see how God can redeem them and use them.
