In The Gardens

Posted by Marcia Carole on Tuesday, March 26, 2013,
There are two important gardens in the Bible narrative. The first is the well know Garden of Eden. That's where Adam and Eve chose to trust a lie, trust themselves, and trust they would to be gods with the bite of an apple/rebellion against their loving God. It seems so odd to so many of us now, but I know my own frame, and too often, I trust lies, trust myself, and act like my own god. It's not what I want to do. Honestly. Being a Christian now, I am very thankful I know there is a better Wa...

Telling Story Through Art

Posted by Marcia Carole on Monday, March 25, 2013,

Sharing a Bible story in Turkey using my art book.

One woman shared her story, and finished by saying she had always wanted to use art in some way to share her faith. She mentioned she used to collage cards, but did not see how that creative skill could be used in sharing Bible stories and personal stories. She said, because of the art workshops, she now knows God has answered the desire of her heart, and she knows how she can use her art for sharing her faith.

God's kindness was so evident in ...

What Is In Your Heart?

Posted by Marcia Carole on Saturday, March 23, 2013,

Contents from a pillow in the shape of a heart.

One of the teaching tools I bring in my suitcase full of art, is a pillow, heart-shaped, and filled with different items that represent things which we may be filling our hearts. As the items are removed, what they represent is revealed and discussed. Are we trying to receive our ultimate worth, value, significance or security in one of these things? As I tell my own story using these items, some new thoughts may be sparked. Maybe we have held on...

I have arrived home after a wonderful experience helping women share their stories in Turkey.  More details to follow soon. I am still getting over jet lag and unpacking. Lots of thoughts and ideas to process.

Heading Out

Packing the art in my suitcase, Marcia Carole

It is time, once again, to head out to a far flung place. My art is packed, as well as the supplies for women to tell their stories through art-making. Clothing I know I'll need, gets a bit of space - but there isn't quite enough room with the heart pillow in my suitcase. Have I ever talked about how I use the heart pillow for teaching? That will have to be another blog post.

I may or may not have an opportunity to blog on my journey. Hmmmm. It just...

Story Ropes Day

Story Rope, Marcia Carole

As I slip into the morning from a great night of sleep, I check to see how my cancer is. I do this ritual every morning while the birds, at my feeder, sing outside my window. I wonder if there will ever be a day when I don't need to check. The idea of moving from stage 4 to stage 3 sounds so joyful, I decide not to keep the thought in my mind for long. I do have hope, but I have been sobered a couple of times when the words "re-staging" and "new stage" have been consi...

Lavender Prints Arrive Monday

Lavender Bouquet, Original Watercolor, Marcia Carole

I've been enjoying a visit from my dad this weekend. He came, conquered my income taxes, and found me a slight refund. Shortly after that, he set all my loose papers and documents in neat arrangements in a file cabinet. My life is simpler and more organized because of his kindnesses.

Monday, we head to the printer to pick up lovely prints of lavender. They are fine museum quality prints on German etching paper, and they make me happy just to...

Springing Up Tulips

Tulip cards from original watercolor, Marcia Carole

I've just received an order of cards with my cheery red tulips on the front. I'll be selling these at an event in April, and I hope they make nice Mother's Day gifts. I hope to have my lavender cards by then as well. Spring and summer flowers everywhere on this grey Seattle day!

Yesterday, I had my three month check-up with my oncologist. He actually seemed mildly optomistic with my progress. That is a big deal if a medical doctor seems happy ...

About Me

Marcia Carole It is my pleasure to help many to process their stories by using a variety of art forms. The art reaches non-verbal parts of the brain, where trauma is stored. Healing may take place through the art-making. By sharing our stories, we become known. Instead of running from our stories, we embrace them and see how God can redeem them and use them.
