Two Year Celebration Fighting Cancer

Posted by Marcia Carole on Sunday, November 24, 2013,

God Is Love, acrylic on canvas, Marcia Carole

Two years ago today, I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. My heart is filled with thanksgiving for family and friends all over the world who have traveled with me on this journey, cheered me on, prayed hard, given much time, resources, love, hope and great food. (Good food is a big part of the journey!) The journey continues, I pray, for many more years. The initial tumor, although with me, is still shrinking, and I pray it ...

Annunciation - Mehndi Style, Completed

Posted by Marcia Carole on Friday, November 22, 2013,

Annunciation, watercolor, pen and ink, Marcia Carole

The Annunciation is a celebration of good news, yet very troubling news. The angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she has been chosen, "highly favored" to be the mother of the incarnate God, Jesus. After a bit of discussion, and "how can this be" type questions, Mary yields to the loving will of God, and states simply, "I am the hand maiden of the Lord."

For this piece, I began with fiery watercolor yellows. Heaven has come to earth! (The re...

The Nativity - Mehndi Style

The Nativity, pen and ink, watercolor, Marcia Carole

I am working on a series of watercolor and mehndi Christmas cards. I jumped right in with creating the nativity scene. Some of the piece developed around the flow of the watercolor. I used lots of flowering lotus blossoms representing the flowering of God's plan to recuse us through Jesus. I tried to also portray a cave, the barn of sorts, for the setting, and the unusual star assigned to mark the spot where the savior arrived.

My eyes are sl...

The Prodigal Son at the Brick Factory

Posted by Marcia Carole on Tuesday, November 12, 2013,

Telling the story of the prodigal son at a brick factory community in Cambodia.

The story of the father with two sons, one older, one younger - The Prodigal Son - is a story I have collaged in book form, and I often share it when I travel. It is a story Jesus told, a parable, about someone lost. When telling this story from the Bible, I highlight our Heavenly Father's heart for each of us. He longs for relationship with each of us, and is looking for us to return to Him. He longs to have us lo...

The Good Samaritan - Collaged Bible Story In Cambodia

Posted by Marcia Carole on Monday, November 11, 2013,
Don't you love hearing a good story? I sure do. The best stories were told by Jesus. They have so many layers, and lots to think about. One story, I have spend a lot of time with, is the story of the Good Samaritan. It's one of my favorite stories which Jesus told. As I ponder the story, memorize it, study it, listen to sermons on it, and make art in response to it, it has become a treasure in my heart, mind and soul.

I brought the art, a collaged art book, I had made in response to the story ...

Mural Painting - Now Cambodia!

Posted by Marcia Carole on Monday, November 11, 2013,

Marcia Carole, mural painting, Cambodia

For some reason, as a quiet, watercolor painter turned artist missionary, I've become a muralist in other countries. I guess God knows the reason. It hasn't been my plan. However, it certainly is an important and fast way to bring artists together!

Amazingly, with minimal translation, this mural was created with 6-9 artists in a children's nursery at a center helping exploited children. I suggested a large tree at the corner, flanking both walls, with a r...

Telling Bible Stories in Cambodia

Posted by Marcia Carole on Friday, November 8, 2013,

Marcia Carole, sharing her Abraham book, mixed media collage. (Thank you to Eric Hanson for the photo.)

During a recent two week trip to Cambodia, I shared a variety of my mixed media, collaged art books that I use to tell Bible stories. At one site, Sak Saum, I shared the story of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar. I brought out the Biblical truth that, the God of the Bible, is the one, true God who sees and hears us. Then, the young people I shared this story with, had time to collage responses to th...

About Me

Marcia Carole It is my pleasure to help many to process their stories by using a variety of art forms. The art reaches non-verbal parts of the brain, where trauma is stored. Healing may take place through the art-making. By sharing our stories, we become known. Instead of running from our stories, we embrace them and see how God can redeem them and use them.
