Final Prep - Telling Our Stories With Collage

Posted by Marcia Carole on Tuesday, October 22, 2013,

I like to prepare lots of stamped shapes on painted papers for those who will be storying on my art outreaches. I'm taking these to Cambodia, and I'll be helping women share their stories...perhaps, even some children.

I'm using a variety of colors because I am not quite sure what different colors mean in Cambodia.

These are the last little items I will be tucking in my art suitcase....and I am hopeful many stories are to follow!

Which Way Is Up? Gospel Cards, Mixed Media, Marcia Carole

I have collaged 5 luggage tags - one can find the basic tags at Staples or another office supply store. These 5 tags tell the Gospel message in an artful way. See if you can find the story in the art as I explain the tags.

God is holy and perfect like gold, He is the King of Kings, the Lord of all. As the master artist, He loves His creation and all of the people He made. He wants a relationship with each of us. However, our sin or darkn...

Painting, Painting, Painting!

Acrylic on canvas, in process.....

Sometimes, I take a break from helping others tell their stories, and just paint. I am painting a piece for a surprise gift. I started with a blank canvas that was hard to get past. Then, the initial painting/drawing began and came fairly easily. However, painting with acrylic, something I am getting better with, is so different from watercolor or oil. I have to trust the process! The painting continues….

And here is the final piece. The person who requested...

Morning Prayer

Morning Prayer, Watercolor on paper, Marcia Carole

I am heading home today, after more than a week with my daughter, who seems to have come through well after her cyber knife radiation treatment. The treatment may possibly give her up to 15 years of arrested growth for her brain tumor. I am praying it shrivels up and goes away.

While being in Colorado Springs, I have been painting three watercolor squares I had tucked in my suitcase. I was most free with this final square, enjoying the flow of ...

Women's Retreat - Jesus, Our Hiding Place

Jesus - My Hiding Place, Watercolor, Marcia Carole

I had the privilege of sharing a weekend retreat with my daughter, Virginia, on a mountain top outside of Colorado Springs. During one of the teaching sessions, I took notes by drawing pictures of what the speaker, Dr. Julie Slattery, was sharing with over 300 women. The above is what I drew and painted as I internalized her teaching.

If you are interested in having a square that is a reproduction of this original, please see my art shop page ...

The Problem With Pain

The Problem With Pain, Graphite on Paper, Marcia Carole

"The Christian doctrine of suffering explains, I believe, a very curious fact about the world we live in. The settled happiness and security which we all desire, God withholds from us by the very nature of the world: but joy, pleasure, and merriment, He has scattered broadcast. We are never safe, but we have plenty of fun, and some ecstasy. It is not hard to see why. The security we crave would te
ach us to rest our hearts in this world an...

Day Two, My Daughter's Radiation

Posted by Marcia Carole on Wednesday, October 2, 2013,

With my daughter, Virginia

A handful of years ago, my youngest daughter, Virginia, had surgery to remove a large mass on the lining of her brain. Thankfully, it was benign, and she came through the procedure well; however, she had nearly fifty staples closing the incision, and recovery was slow, over a period of months. We shared much of that time together. Many dear ones prayed. My mother's heart nearly broke as I watched her go through such a serious surgery and arduous recovery.

She had seve...

Final Piece - Mehndi - God's Story

God's Story, acrylic on canvas, Marcia Carole

I have completed a large canvas in response to my time in India. I am hopeful this piece can be shared in countries where this style, mehndi, resonates. I've painted the flow of God's big story in this piece.

Beginning with creation in the root system of the tree, and then Adam and Eve, the two hearts, with the apple and serpent and promised savior in the lower trunk, I tell His story. Then, I have stars representing the promise to Abraham and Sarah...

About Me

Marcia Carole It is my pleasure to help many to process their stories by using a variety of art forms. The art reaches non-verbal parts of the brain, where trauma is stored. Healing may take place through the art-making. By sharing our stories, we become known. Instead of running from our stories, we embrace them and see how God can redeem them and use them.
