Holy Week- Way To Heaven, Mixed Media, Marcia Carole
The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling,
a scrubby plant in a parched field.
There was nothing attractive about him,
nothing to cause us to take a second look.
He was looked down on and passed over,
a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.
One look at him and people turned away.
We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried—
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself,
that God was punishing him for his own failures.
But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises we get healed.
We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost.
We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way.
And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong,
on him, on him. Isaiah 53:2-6
I worked on this for several hours; then I realized I had not eaten. I go to the right side of my brain, it is a world all “creatives” know about, and I totally forget about time. Yikes, I thought. I have to eat so I reap the benefits of the plant based diet. No snack food for me or a bowl of cereal. I have to eat several veggies and fruit for dinner.
The composition wasn’t satisfying to me, at first, so I had to keep going, moving pieces around until something seemed to happen that is pleasing to me. I began seeing a “staircase” of sorts, and I remembered Jesus alluding to Himself as the staircase to heaven which Jacob saw long ago. This seems better to me. On the cross, he paid for our sins and provides the way to heaven.
Now, I have to get those eight hours of sleep in order for my body to rest and heal.
Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.” John 1:51
