Bamboo Study, Watercolor, Marcia Carole
With art making, one can always take a trip somewhere. Today I am in China. When Alice came to care for me for a month; and it was one of my hardest months on chemo, she brought some beautiful Chinese painting brushes. They come beautifully wrapped in a delicate bamboo cover. How fitting it is that my students will be painting bamboo with these brushes today.
I have two outstanding home schooled students whom I teach. They are always eager to try any new project I present. This one might be slightly harder; the control for this type of painting is tricky. Masters take many years to practice. When I first pulled out these brushes, I felt like I was a young elephant with a heavy trunk trying to paint a rose. I’m certain they will catch on more quickly than I.
I like the idea that bamboo represents life for the Chinese. There is much Bamboo in China, I hear, and just maybe, I’ll see it in person one day! What fun to try a new artistic style.
All who are gifted artisans among you shall come and make all that the Lord has commanded. —Exodus 35:10
