Prayer, Marker and Watercolor, Marcia Carole

Another gray Seattle morning has arrived. I put on Mozart and open up a new book entitled, Praying In Color. Mozart is supposed to make you smarter and kill cancer cells, in case you hadn’t heard. However, I digress. My new book about praying in color is a nice read. The basic idea is something like this: use markers to make shapes, add colors with your prayer words on a piece of paper to help speak them out and internalize them. I skim through the book and decide to find a black marker to try it.

I think of family members to draw some of my prayers. Then I move on to drawing and painting out scripture verses. The process reminds me of collage. I look at what I’ve done and understand that once again, art has helped in bringing thoughts, prayers, scripture deeper into my own soul. And, I’ve talked with my Artist Maker.

I might keep a prayer journal just with drawn prayers. It does take a little bit of time, but it helps a great deal in focusing on what I want to concentrate on or with WHOM I want to concentrate. (I have heard that the word whom isn’t being used very often anymore, so I am trying to help its along.) Praying in Color – it’s worth a try – especially in gray Seattle!

The Steadfast Love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning; great is Your Faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul. Therefore, I will HOPE in Him! – Lamentations 3:22-24
