Tonight was a lovely teaching night for me; I really enjoy passing along story collage – especially with my daughter, Katie, one on one. She has been carrying, in her heart, ideas to make art in response to the account in the Bible where Jesus is heading off to Jerusalem to die, but stops for one particular amazing encounter. Katie wants to contrast the disciples’ request of Jesus, with blind Bartimaeus’ request.

Making this type of art begins with studying the Scriptures to get at the essence of what is happening, and to ask the Holy Spirit to direct in understanding truth. What a lively discussion we have had tonight. Now, I would love to collage this part of the Bible, too! However, I am hanging near Katie to see if she needs anything, sorting painted papers, finding ribbons and buttons and cheering her on.

Bartimaeus heard the noise of the crowd which was with Jesus. People told him that Jesus of Nazareth was there. Bartimaeus then immediately shouted out ‘Jesus, Son of David, help me’.

Many people said, `Be quiet!’ But he shouted louder, `Son of David! Help me! Jesus stopped and said, `Call him.’ They called the blind man and said to him, `Be glad! Come, get up! He is calling you.’ The man threw off his coat, jumped up, and went to Jesus. Jesus said, `What do you want me to do for you?’ – Matthew 10
