Restoration, Acrylic on canvas, Marcia Carole

Today, I bring two or three pieces of art to an art show. I haven’t submitted work for a show in years. It costs money to even try, and then there is the rejection to deal with if they say, “Come pick up your piece; it has not been selected for the current show.” Artists take risks to put their art out there. We all want to be liked and appreciated, and our work is really an extension of each of us.

This piece is about the reunion of Joseph and his father, Jacob. The eleven other brothers are swirling around in the canvas, but the restored father/son relationship emerges from the crowd. The broken pieces of Joseph’s brightly colored coat represent the brokenness of his story. Sold into slavery, falsely accused of rape, living in prison for years and years; Joseph had some shards of a life that eventually came together when he became second in command in all of Egypt.

This story of restoration reminds me of our restored relationship with our heavenly Father because of what Jesus has done for us. We, too, have broken places in our stories, but God can bring beauty and restoration out of them if we entrust them to Him.

I’ve suggested a cross so I can talk about Jesus if someone ever asks me.

Hopefully, it will make it into the show. Either way, I do like how this one turned out.
