While sipping on ginger beer, no, it’s not alcoholic, I have been working on a collage for Psalm 1. Today, I have been slammed with the fatigue that comes with chemo. At one point, Judi, my sister-in-law found me curled up in a ball under a mound of blankets and pillows and asked if she could help. “Please turn off the light,” I responded weakly. Thank you, Judy! So goes my morning after chemo. I woke up a bit crabby, and I was mad at myself for being crabby.

So, to distract myself from the lethargy and ill humor, I have been collaging as best as I can. I feel another nap coming on. I’m so thankful I don’t have to rush off to a job in this condition, and I think of those that do and shake my head.

I haven’t finished gluing everything down, but the ideas are coming – the chaff, the deeply rooted tree by the stream, flowering fruit and non-withered leaves. I haven’t the energy to do more today. I’m thinking all the while, meditating on the passage so I can express it in my art. The art helps with giving the passage my full attention. I am picturing myself as the flowering tree with my roots down deep in Jesus, bald head, fatigued body, and crabby attitude. I enjoy knowing no matter what befalls me, I am deeply rooted in faith, a strong, big faith in Jesus, my Lord and Savior, the lover of my soul. Chemo and cancer can’t budge those roots.

Stay tuned – I’ll post the final piece tomorrow.

Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
