Packing Day is fast upon me as I head home for Seattle. Saturday morning, I fly home. Home. What a nice word, such a comforting word. Having finished gluing down the parts of this last piece in response to Psalm 1, I am putting all the art supplies away. The art will be in my carry-on suitcase, along with the most treasured items I don’t want to loose with a checked bag gone missing. I am thankful for all the time I have had to make art, even though I would not have chosen the path of cancer and chemo for time and space to create. God’s ways are mysterious.
My brother Marc, and his wife, Judi, have distracted me from some of the pain post chemo this week. (That bag of chemicals packs quite the punch!) They brought me to a couple of good movies, Judi and I had some good talks, and Marc walked me outside in the warm sunshine, even letting me hold onto his arm for balance. I was happy with a 20 minute walk with him because, gosh, I was feeling poorly today.
I’ll be saying farewell to Dad and Janet, thankful to God that He cared for me so well through their many, many kindnesses. They have given and given during these past 6 weeks. My dad is ever so attentive, even down to buying me more glue sticks when I’d used every last one in the house. He and Janet have been real troopers in allowing me to share their home, mix strange spinach smoothies in their kitchen, and retreat to my bed for hours and hours when I have been so sick or making art. I can only praise God for all His tender care while I have been with them.
I’ll see some of you really soon, Lord willing!
Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
