Well Watered Hope, Painted Papers Collage, Marcia Carole

Today, I have received very hard news from a friend who is loosing a daughter, save a divine intervention. Her daughter was in a devastating car accident. Words fail me. I am choked with compassion and have nowhere to go with it. So, I make art.

I am thinking she is in a “sun-scorched” place in her life right now. What can be worse than loosing a child? What can be more sun-scorched? The overwhelming sorrow is something no parent ever wants to think about, even momentarily.

And yet, that is where my friend is parked today, and she can’t will her way out of this one. My brain hurts as I think of her day in the hospital. My only hope for her, and her only hope, is that she  knows Jesus, the Living Water, who will sustain her and bring her daughter safely Home.

So, I embrace my friend, and comfort my own soul, through the process of making art. I put a little, seemingly scorched orange house in a very red spot. However, I add one paper of hope – the blue strip representing the Living Water. Then, I top the house with a cooling blue roof. My friend will not be consumed. I have hope.

The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.  – Isaiah 58:11
