Free, Acrylic on canvas, Marcia Carole

I have forced myself to paint more freely today. It does not come naturally, but I want to keep pushing myself to try greater abstraction in my work, occasionally. This is my second painting on the concept of being free, taken from Romans 5 and 6 in the Bible.

As Bob Dylan says, everyone is going to serve someone or something. We were made to worship. It is how we are wired. We are slaves to sin, or doing things our way apart from God. (Having it our way.) Jesus took the punishment for that sin, so we can be free to genuinely serve and love Him. (Having it His way.)

As I think about all this, I marvel. It was not free for Jesus. I am accepted and loved completely and set free by God as He sees me in Jesus, and what He did on the cross.

But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
Romans 6
