Lavender Fields, Watercolor, Marcia Carole

Tonight, while teaching a private lesson, we worked wet on wet – that is, we worked with wet paper with our watercolors. This became my demo. It was fun to work more loosely than I normally do! Of course, dreaming of the bright sunshine on a lavender field, all on a Seattle cloudy day, made me happy as well. I am hoping to work up several possibilities for cards for a lavender farm’s gift shop. Stay tuned!

Here is an interesting Bible fact: “Lavender is mentioned often in the Bible, not by the name lavender but rather by the name used at that time–spikenard (from the Greek name for lavender, naardus, after the Syrian city Naarda). In the gospel of Luke the writer reports: “Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.” -http://www.lavenderfarm.com/history.htm
