Sometimes, it is hard for people to understand the types of art projects I use both globally and locally. It’s better if you actually do one or two of the projects. The process of making a story rope is very therapeutic because it often lifts trauma as it is being made. One can actually feel the trauma, with the ribbons and fabric, as the rope is being made. It really is a bridge to release trauma.

At the conference in Cameroon, all the women made story ropes. One is pictured above. When we were in Ethiopia, we made story ropes with two different groups of women. All the women in those two groups made the story ropes and most shared their stories. The group that was further along in their care and healing had an easier time in making the story rope. Perhaps, they were further along in processing their stories.
