Varanasi, watercolor on paper, Marcia Carole
Yesterday, I took up a watercolor painting I had done a while back, after returning from Varanasi, India. I warmed up the color tones in the piece, as I remembered the heat of the city. I also added some detail using a brown pen, and I intensified the colors in the sky. As the artist, for this work, I’ve gotten to the essence of some things and people I saw during my visit.
The roads were a menagerie of cows, people, water buffalo, garbage, dust, dogs, Buddhist pilgrims and rickshaws tucked amongst the careening automobiles! I am the one staring out of my car window at all these sights, and now, I am taking you with me.
